Because what girl doesn’t wish she could wear her scrapbook supplies?

Ok perhaps not literally, but you have to admit that some of the patterns and products that are coming out lately look good enough to wear out on the town.  That’s where this came from:

(My Mind’s Eye paper from February AC Bailey Kit)

This project was loads of fun, took very little time, and will make such a great addition to my scrap-room up on a display shelf.  You can do it too.  For some guidelines and some detail pics just click more below! :)   Thanks for stopping by today!

 Great!  Here’s what you’ll need.

  • The “mannequin” form, which can be found at just about any craft store.  I found mine at a Michael’s for $6. (near the bare wood projects)
  • Paint if you wish to cover the form, it comes in a craft / natural color.
  • Good  quality patterned paper… not cardstock, but paper with some thickness to it.  As noted above I used My Mind’s Eye… Basic Grey would work well too.  Spend the extra 20 cents per sheet for this one.
  • Ribbon – it’s a must to give her a waist.
  • Any other little embellishments your heart desires, think flowers, bling, more ribbon, glitter, heck even rub-ons so you can give her a butterfly tattoo. ;)
  • Glue Dots – consider them your safety pins.

And the basic directions:

  • Paint the form if you wish.  Remember you only need paint the parts that you plan to not cover with anything.
  • Trim your paper to the approximate length of your dress, do the same with the circumference, but be generous with yourself on  both.  You can always trim later.
  • Now for the fun part…you’re going to run that paper under tap water.  *Gasp* you say!  I know, but only once or twice.  Enough so it bends easily and allows you to mold it around the form.  Because you bought the good stuff, you have a little give in getting this step right.  Don’t worry if you get a small tear, you can always cover it with an embellishment later.   Note that it won’t mold perfectly to the waist, that’s what the next step is for.
  • Take a piece of ribbon, and tie it around her waist, you can go pretty tight.  This will give you a few “fabric folds” in the paper as well.  And now it will really start to look like a dress.
  • It will probably stay on this way, but I used some Glue Dots here and there to keep everything in place, use your own best judgement.
  • The top around the “bust” line will stick out a bit.  To solve this on mine I used more ribbon, but you can do whatever you wish if anything.
  • Finally, embellish away!  Here are some close ups of what I did with mine:

The frilly skirt is made from scraps of ribbon tucked underneath the blue one on top.   And the flower is covering a tear when I got a little too zealous with the wet paper.  It’s all about strategic placement people.

Finally that stand is made from a $1 store ornament holder that I bent the heck out of.  Get creative with that too, you’ll have an awesome display piece and your own little scrapbook fashion show. Now how can we get them to make these for real in our size?

Thanks for stopping by today, and have a great weekend!
