Holiday Gloves

Or sweatshirt, socks, tote bag, whatever you choose to do this too!  This is a very easy project that my Aunt taught me many (many) years ago which I was just recently reminded of.  It’s so much fun!  Kids can most definitely help (or do it themselves)  so gather a few supplies and put your little elves to work.

Materials needed:

• Whatever you’d like to put your design on!  The possibilities are endless.  For this project, I used a pair of stretch gloves (which you can find for super cheap at just about any drugstore this time of year… well in the Mid-west anyway).
• Fabric paint in any color – I used this brand  from Tulip.  You must use fabric paint so you can wash your project later.
• Scrap cardstock or paper
• Something to use to cut out a shape of your choice, such as a stencil (or I used my Cricut).
• Double-sided Tape.

Instructions:

Step 1:  Find a shape (or shapes!)  you love and cut it out on your scrap paper – be it a star, snowman, heart, tree, reindeer, etc etc.  Look at those Cricut cartridges.  Just be sure the “inside” of your shape doesn’t have too much detail, or it will be hard to see when you’re all done.

Step 2:  Attach the shape using double-sided tape to the item your painting on.  Remember to account for any “stretch”, on some items like these gloves your shape will be much larger when it’s worn.

Step 3:  Using your fabric paint of choice, trace the outside of your shape by making small droplets – take a break if you start to go cross-eyed.

Continue this until you have traced around the shape as many times as you like!  You also have the choice of not following the shape outline over your whole project – you can fill as much “white space” in on the design as you like.  This will vary depending on the area you are covering, and totally up to you.

Step 4:  Let your project dry (mine took about 4-5 hours) and peel off your paper template.  Voila!  Let it dry for at least 24 hours before wearing  just to be sure it’s set.
